Abstract

The accumulation of carbon in wetlands, especially mangroves, has been of interest and has been promoted by scientists since the level of CO₂ emissions is increasing. Accurate carbon accounting is important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To evaluate the carbon sequestration ability of mangrove ecosystems, scientists have proposed many different methods. These methods are mainly direct and indirect assessment techniques and estimates through technology models. Currently, all three of the above methods have been and are being used in Vietnam, but the direct method is still used the most. This study aims to overview some popular carbon stock assessment methods as well as their application in the world and in Vietnam, thereby providing
some recommendations for Vietnam.
