Measuring the contribution of the ocean economy to Viet Nam’s economic growth
Abstract
From the establishment of the Input-Output tables (IOT) 2020, the value added of ocean economic industries in 2020 contributed 7.2% to the total Viet Nam’s GDP, in which the crude oil and natural gas exploitation industry contributed the highest propotion with 21,5%; marine exploitation and aquaculture contributed 19,2%; shipping and shipping support services contributed 15%; crude oil processing contributed 14,9%; and marine seafood processing contributed 7,1%. Calculation of the value added of ocean economy to GDP is crutial in determining the values of marine and coastal resources for socio-economic development to implemente appropriateinterventions to promote the values of marine and coastal resources, and reduce impacts from different sectors on marine and coastal ecosystems and environment.
