Abstract

The Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) is a theory in environmental economics that describes the relationship between economic development and environmental quality. According to EKC, economic development initially leads to increased pollution, but as the economy matures and shifts to cleaner industries, pollution can decrease. Using regression analysis, this study explores the relationship between greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and economic growth in China during the period from 1990 to 2020. The results of the regression analysis support the EKC hypothesis for China, stating that economic growth initially increases các-bon emissions, then decreases as income increases. These findings highlight the potential for sustainable economic development through appropriate policy measures and technological advances and provide insight into the dynamics between economic development and environmental degradation in one of the world's largest economies.
