Abstract
Using analysis and a review of secondary literature, the paper examines the roles of stakeholders in sustainable tourism development, including local governments, businesses, and local communities, based on empirical evidence from around the world. Specifically, it explores empirical studies on the role of local government in Kuakata, Bangladesh; the role of accommodation businesses in Alan, Turkey; and the role of the local community in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. These empirical studies demonstrate that collaboration among stakeholders helps conserve resources, promote the economy, and enhance the quality of local tourism. The paper draws lessons for stakeholders in sustainable tourism development cooperation in Vietnam and affirms that coordination among stakeholders is the key to sustainable tourism development globally and in Vietnam in particular.
