Abstract
The territorial border between the United States and Mexico constitutes one of the most dynamic and complex border regions in the world, serving as a key element in the bilateral relationship between the two countries. In particular, the border region offers significant advantages for Mexico in developing its manufacturing industry. The border industrialization program has been implemented by Mexico since the early 1960s through the Maquiladora Program, later evolving into the IMMEX Program. The paper employs a literature review and case study approach to highlight Mexico’s economic development efforts in its border region through the establishment of industrial zones along the Mexico – U.S. border. The research findings indicate that Mexico’s border industrialization programs have played a pivotal role in enhancing Mexico’s economic growth while also generating mutual benefits for both nations.
