DETERMINANTS OF THE SELF-SECURITY AMONG INFORMAL WORKERS IN URBAN VIETNAM
Abstract
Abstract: Using secondary data analysis with data from the 2020 Household Living Standards Survey (VHLSS 2020), the paper focuses on clarifying the self-security situation of informal urban workers and analyzing determinants of their self-security. The findings show that, in the context of social welfare policies for informal workers still being limited or not meeting their needs, workers mainly rely on self-security measures to help themselves and their families overcome risks in life and shocks caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. There exists differences in building self-security strategies due to individual characteristics, family characteristics, and place of residence of workers. In addition, the limitations of the implementation of support policies for informal workers in urban areas in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic also affect their self-security strategies.
