CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE PAPER MAKING CRAFT VILLAGE OF THE NUNG ETHNIC PEOPLE IN CAO BANG PROVINCE: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Abstract
Abstract: The paper aims to explore the current status of the paper making craft of the Nung ethnic people in Phuc Sen commune, Quang Hoa district, Cao Bang province. Using various research methods such as document collection and analysis, in-depth interviews, group discussions, and surveys conducted during a field trip in 2022, the paper highlights that the Nung people's paper-making craft, which has been passed down for over 100 years, carries the cultural identity of the ethnic group. The craft utilizes entirely natural materials, ensuring safety for users and providing a stable source of income for the villagers. It also has the potential to serve as a tourist attraction for craft villages. However, several challenges are posed to the conservation and development of the craft, including issues related to raw material cultivation planning, price competition, product design, and product consumption, and so son. From these challenges, the paper proposes solutions for further conservation and development of the Nung paper-making craft in Phuc Sen in the coming years.
