Abstract
Abstract: Human resources become an important asset for organizations, whether they are public, private, or other economic components. For universities, the human resources, including lecturers and staff, determine the quality of education, reputation, ranking, competitiveness, and attraction of excellent students. University autonomy gives power to individual institutions to make decisions about organization and personnel, finance and assets, education and research, international cooperation, and quality assurance. However, in the context of university autonomy, universities face competition for attracting highly qualified and professional faculty members from public and private sectors, as well as international institutions. Based on some classifications of autonomous universities worldwide, the paper evaluates the human resource policies in autonomous universities in Vietnam and provides some recommendations.
