URBAN ECONOMY IN CENTRAL CITIES OF VIETNAM: CURRENT SITUATION AND SOLUTIONS
Abstract
Abstract: The paper analyzes the economic situation in five central cities in Vietnam, namely Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (special urban areas), Hai Phong, Da Nang, and Can Tho (first-class urban areas). According to statistics from the provinces, central cities, and Vietnam as a whole, as of 2021, despite accounting for approximately 20% of the population and 2.9% of the total area, these five central cities contributed over 34% of the GDP, approximately 26.2% of the export turnover, and more than 54% of the national budget revenue. Based on an analysis of the current economic development criteria in these central cities, the author will provide recommendations for promoting urban economic development in Vietnam in the coming years.
