HUMAN ELEMENTS IN MARITIME ACCIDENTS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF IMO AND RECENT STUDIES

Abstract

According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), human error is responsible for up to 80% of all maritime accidents. Psychological factors, fatigue, poor communication, inadequate training, and ineffective management can also play a role in maritime accidents. The IMO has recognized the importance of addressing these issues and to address these issues, the IMO has developed a range of measures to improve the human element in maritime law. These include training programs, safety management systems, and regulatory frameworks that aim to promote a culture of safety and reduce the risk of accidents at sea. In this paper, the authors focus on clarifying the important role of human factors affecting the maritime law system and recent studies on this issue.
