Abstract

The paper focuses on studying the thermo-electrochemical model of 18650 Lithium-Ion battery by numerical method by using COMSOL Multiphysics. The variation of current and heat is analyzed in terms of heat generated in the battery cell and heat dissipation to the environment. Under conditions of short continuous charge-discharge cycles, the rate of temperature rise of the battery is highest and the temperature can reach to 90.6°C if the battery is not cooled. Applied cooling ensures the maximum temperature of the battery only reaches to 56.6 °C and remains within the allowable working limits of the battery.
