COPING WITH THE ANGER EMOTIONS OF STUDENTS AT SECONDARY SCHOOL
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the current situation of coping with anger and the correlation between anger and coping styles among junior high school students in Hanoi City. The study sample consisted of 395 students from grades 6 to 10, selected by convenience sampling. The participants taking part in the study completed two questionnaires: The Children's inventory of anger (developed by Nelson and Finch in 2000) and the Coping styles questionnaire developed by the research team. The results of the study showed that junior high school students experienced anger at a moderate level (occasionally), in which they mainly used avoidant coping style and focused on emotions styles rather than problemfocused coping style when experiencing the emotion of anger. There was a negative correlation between anger and coping styles of students. Some discussions about the results, directions for further research as well as suggestions for teachers, psychologists and social workers are also analyzed in the current study
