Abstract
Introduction: Tumor budding is an important independent prognostic factor in colorectal carcinoma, and associated with local tumor recurrence, lymph node metastases, distant metastases, and significantly worse survival.
Objectives: To study the grading of tumor budding and association between tumor budding and some other histopathological factors.
Material and Methods: Descriptive study on 269 colorectal cancer patients.
Results:Tumor budding was found in 67.3% with low grade, 20.8% with moderate and 11.9% with high-grade tumor budding. High grade tumor budding was associated with adverse histopathological features including higher histological grade, higher pT, higher pN stage, lymphovascular invasion and perineural invasion . The difference is statistically significant with p < 0.05.
Conclusion: High-grade tumor budding is a poor prognostic factor and needs to be diagnosed in routine practice.
