INFLUENCING FACTORS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF VIETNAM'S 2018 NATIONAL CURRICULUM: A CASE STUDY OF GEOGRAPHY TEACHERS IN SELECTED NORTHERN PROVINCES

Abstract
Vietnam has been undertaking aneducational reform with the adoption of the 2018National Curriculum. The implementation of thisnew curriculum demands preparation andsignificant efforts from teachers to adapt. Thisstudy investigates factors affecting theimplementation of the 2018 curriculum amonggeography teachers. Data was collected through indepth interviews with 12 geography teachers invarious provinces across Northern Vietnam. Thefindings reveal that teachers faced more challengesthan facilitators. Key influencing factors includethe curriculum itself, school conditions, societalawareness, subject content, and assessmentmethods. Based on these findings, the study offersrecommendations to help teachers overcomedifficulties in implementing the 2018 curriculumand provides insights for teacher professionaldevelopment.
