Abstract
The methods of discovery learning andcompetence-based learning are being consideredfor research and applied in practical mathematicsteaching. Based on the procedures of the discoverylearning method of other authors, this paperproposes the procedure of the discovery learningmethod to develop the mathematics thinking andreasoning competence for students. Aftercomparing the content of the topic “numericalsequence” between the curriculums in The LaoPeople's Democratic Republic (Laos) andVietnam, the paper applies the procedure ofdiscovery learning method in teaching this topic todevelop mathematics thinking and reasoning fortwelfth-grade students in Laos
