Abstract
The article establishes a system of SinoVietnamese elements for Grade 5 students based on a survey of Sino-Vietnamese elements found in Vietnamese language textbooks. The system comprises 500 elements, each categorized by pronunciation, corresponding Chinese characters, and meaning. These 500 Sino-Vietnamese elements were selected based on criteria such as high word formation potential, high frequency of occurrence in textbooks, and relevance for continued learning at lower and upper secondary levels. Based on this database, the article proposes a framework for designing exercises focused on Sino-Vietnamese elements for Grade 5 students. The exercise system is structured to address different cognitive levels: recognition (three types of exercises), comprehension (three types of exercises), and application (three types of exercises). A range of exercise formats is employed, including matching, sequencing, fill-in-the-blanks, true/false, multiplechoice, and short-answer questions. The proposed system of Sino-Vietnamese elements and the accompanying exercise framework serve as practical reference tools to support teachers and students in the teaching and learning of Sino-Vietnamese elements.
