Applying the Sino – Nom knowledge in training vocabulary development at primary students – teachers: analysis Grade 5 Vietnamese language

Abstract

Vocabulary development is closely related to reading comprehension and language competence. In order for primary teachers to perform well the task of teaching and developing students’ language competence, they need to receive in-depth training and have a good\sound foundation in this field. Through the analysis of Grade 5 Vietnamese textbooks (vocabulary development section), this paper proposes to explore Chinese’s visual elements combined with meaning to help learners deeply comprehend\understand the meaning of the elements of Chinese origin, and distinguish them from the elements of Chinese origin which are homophones, laying a solid foundation for comprehension and word application in vocabulary development. On that basis, the article suggests teaching activities to develop vocabulary for primary student teachers.
