Research approaches on empathy and some suggestions to improve empathy capacity for teachers

Abstract

This paper focuses on analyzing, synthesizing, and generalizing research on empathy from domestic and foreign studies. There are five main research approaches on empathy, including (1) research that analyzes the nature and structure of empathy; (2) research on the relationship between empathy and aggressive behavior; (3) research on the link between empathy and socially appropriate behavior; (4) research on the role of empathy in teachers' activities; (5) research on empathy capacity and training programs to improve empathy capacity. From the above analysis, the current paper identifies the need and makes suggestions to develop empathy capacity for high school teachers in Vietnam in the current context.
