EMOTIONAL CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR FROM THE COLOR BLUE IN JAPANESE

Abstract
Color is one of the first concepts that people learn from the world. The cognition of colors among languages is diverse, creating difficulties to learners in the process of language acquisition. This paper is aimed to analyze the word for color 青-ao (cyan), which consists of two shades, blue and green, from the perspective of cognitive linguistics in order to elucidate the emotional conceptual metaphor model using the source domain 青-ao (cyan) in Japanese and the abstract target domain emotion. Research results have shown that the Japanese word for color 青-ao (cyan) reflects negative emotional concepts, including: anger, fear, sadness and jealousy.
