Knowledge on Blood Transfusion among nursing students at Nguyen Tat Thanh University
Abstract
Blood transfusion is an essential procedure in the treatment of many diseases. Nurses and nursing students undergoing internships at practical facilities play a critical role in ensuring the safety of blood transfusions to achieve therapeutic efficacy and patient safety. This study aims to assess the knowledge of blood transfusion safety among nursing students interning at practical facilities and related factors. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2024 to September 2024 on nursing students from Nguyen Tat Thanh University who are interning at practical facilities. Survey results from 212 nursing students have shown that 58.5 % of students have satisfactory knowledge. Fourth-year students have better knowledge of blood transfusion safety than third-year students (p < 0.01), and nursing students with multiple sources of information have better knowledge than those with only one source. The study highlights the need to strengthen continuous training programs at both educational institutions and practical facilities to improve nursing students' knowledge of blood transfusion safety.
