Abstract

Nursing is an essential profession within the healthcare system, with the main roles of providing healthcare, supporting treatment processes, and promoting recovery for patients. As nursing students are the future backbone of the healthcare system, their positive attitude towards the profession are highly motivated in their studies and self-development, while demonstrating dedication, responsibility, and passion in their practice. This study evaluated the nursing students' attitudes towards the profession and related factors. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2024 to September 2024 on nursing students at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. Survey results of 212 nursing students showed that 89.6% had a positive attitude towards the profession, with an overall attitude score of 154.1 ± 14.7. Factors such as academic year and motivation for choosing the profession, including interest and passion, were associated with nursing students’ attitudes towards their profession. The results indicated the need for early career orientation programs which should be implemented from the first year to help students better understand the nursing profession, thereby fostering a more positive attitude towards their careers.
