Architectural Space Orientation of Multidisciplinary University Libraries in the Context of Education 4.0
Abstract
The nature of higher education is undergoing a significant transformation alongside the explosion of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in the 21st century, and with it, the nature of multidisciplinary university libraries is also evolving. In 21st-century modern education, with technological advancements and changes in learning methods, multidisciplinary university libraries need to be reconsidered and restructured to meet the demands of personalized learning, interdisciplinary research, and global connectivity. This paper discusses and analyzes the functions and concepts of academic libraries in the 21st century, as well as approaches to designing library architecture as a non-standard learning spaces to support a learner-centered model. It then presents an analysis and evaluation of selected case studies on non-traditional learning spaces in several international universities. Based on these insights, the paper proposes strategic directions to reshape the architectural spaces of multidisciplinary university libraries, optimizing their value in enhancing educational quality.
