Malaysian culture through the lens of contemporary architecture
Abstract
Architecture is an important part of human culture. Malaysians have done a great job of expressing their culture through architecture. Studying Malaysian practices with many similarities in climate with close geographical distance between the two countries will bring about many useful lessons for Vietnam.The article is based on practical experiences and syntheses, analyzes and assessments from various sources to identify Malaysian cultural expressions through contemporary architecture in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, its new administrative capital.Through the research process, the writer summarized the following statements: Malaysian architecture has a diversity of different cultures (Chinese, Indian, Malay, Western)-the government has turned this disadvantage into advantage; Islamic culture is ingeniously incorporated into new buildings. This is the emphasis of the national religion and the foundation for national unity; The Malaysian flag is used as an architectural detail. It evokes national pride and increases the solidarity among the different ethnic groups; The coordination between the government and the design groups is the major factor that determines the harmonious development and long-term orientation of the city.The correct policy of the government has promoted the strength of the nation. In addition, the popular use of English and Chinese in Malaysia, the two most common languages in the world , is the favorable condition for Malaysian people to connect different ethnic groups and keep pace with the world.
