Survey on understanding about HIV/AIDS prevention of students of course 15DDS, Nguyen Tat Thanh University

Abstract

    HIV/AIDS is a dangerous disease and there is no medicine or vaccine up to now . Currently, 16 to 29 year olds is the most infected age group, which is also the ages of students [1,2]. Therefore, understanding how to prevent HIV/AIDS is very necessary and important, it is the top concern of the society and education institutions. The research is conducted to survey the knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention among students of 15DDS course, at Faculty of Pharmacy, Nguyen Tat Thanh University. The result showed :
- Student characteristics of study sample: 21.5 % are male students and 78.5 % are female students. 27.25 % of students have participated in seminars, activities and competitions on HIV/AIDS. 
- Knowledge about HIV/AIDS prevention: 93.5 % Students answered correctly and fully about the three main ways for HIV/AIDS transmission: via blood, unsafe sex, and from mother to child. 88.75 % of students answered correctly about healthy people still being infected with HIV/AIDS. Most students know how to prevent and control HIV/AIDS infection such as "Not sharing needles" (96.75 %); "Using a condom when having sex" (90.25 %); "No prostitution" (94 %); "Not using drug injection together" (76.5 %); "Being faithful to one partner" (58.5 %). However, not all knows the right time to test for HIV/AIDS, 36.25 % of students know that the minimum time for testings to give an exact result is 3 months after exposure or suspected exposure.
