An analysis of drug consumption in Gia Dinh People’s Hospital between 2020 and 2021
Abstract
An analysis of healthcare drug use can provide detailed information about the facility’s inappropriate use of medications and can assist healthcare providers in administering precriptions and buying medicine. The methods is a cross-sectional study reseaching a list of drug items distributed by the department of pharmacy in Gia Dinh People’s Hospital between 2020 and 2021. The results showed that there were 864 drug items in 2020 and 964 drug items, corresponding to more than 88,3 billion VND and about 127 billion VND respectively. Imported drugs accounted for the most of the value from 72.2 % to 79.5 % of the value. The group of antibiotics, antifungals, and antivirals had the highest number of items and values in the two-research-year period. The structure of drug use is according to the ABC classification in terms of use value, in which grade A drugs accounted for about 80% of the use value, grade B drugs accounted for about 10% and grade C drugs about 10%. Drug group N with 27 items to 31 items from 2020 to 2021 belonged to the AN drug group and were used but at a limit of 2-3 items, accounting for about (0.4-0.6) % of the use value. Conclusion: The structure used at the Gia Dinh People’s Hospital was relatively reasonable and should be kept stable in the following years. However, hospital should use domestically produced drugs instead of imported drugs.
