Abstract
As higher education is undergoing significant transformation to meet the demand of socio-economic development, the Architecture program at Nguyen Tat Thanh University has continuously improved and innovated in order to enhance the quality of education and the practical working capabilities of graduates. This study proposes some solutions to improve the teaching and learning methods of design studio courses based on a competency development approach which closely integrates theory and practice through the use of document analysis, focuses on both domestic and international contexts, along with modern trends in architectural education. The system of design studio courses has been established with a high degree of integration with theoretical courses, emphasizing the development of individual competencies through practical experience and project-based learning. The results showed that the innovation of teaching methods enables students to absorb knowledge more easily, develop practical skills, and enhance creative design thinking. At the same time, the study highlights the importance of collaboration between universities and businesses, thereby creating opportunities for students to access real-world working environments during undergraduate years.
