Developing the ability to read and understand artistic texts for grade 3 students in Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province

Abstract

Reading and understanding artistic texts is one of the important contents in teaching Vietnamese in general and teaching Vietnamese 3 in particular. Vietnamese Textbook 3 was compiled according to the 2018 General Education Program, shifting from imparting knowledge to helping students comprehensively develop qualities and abilities. However, the curent reality of teaching Vietnamese for grade 3 today still has some shortcomings, including teachers are not yet bold in using many methods and questions to learn about the lesson contents of the textbook used. In addition, 3rd grade students appear to use many sentences incorrectly, being unable to express complete ideas in communication. They also seem uninterested in learning to read and understand artistic texts, and nor are they bold in communication. Based on an overview of theoretical issues on the ability to read and understand artistic texts and surveying the current status of teaching reading and understanding of artistic texts of teachers and students, the article proposes some strategies for improvement. This study is aimed to contribute to supporting teachers; besides, students can read and understand texts better.
