The solitary figure in diplomatic poetry by Nguyen De
Abstract
Nguyen De is one of the prominent authors in Vietnamese literature during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a period marked by significant historical upheavals. Accordingly, his poetry often reflects the image of a solitary figure confronting the turbulent times. Building upon previous research achievements, this study aims to explore a new aspect of the solitary figure in Nguyen De’s poetry. Specifically, employing the analytical - synthetic method combined with the structural - systematic approach, the article delves into the portrayal of the solitary figure through melancholic sentiments across three primary dimensions: nostalgia for the homeland, longing for friends, and yearning for family. This research, therefore, contributes more or less to the ongoing study of the poetic works by this poet.
