Designing experiential activities towards local culture for 5-6 year old children at kindergarten in Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province
Abstract
Local contexts are very diverse, rich in the real life of preschool children. Without exploration, local contexts will continue naturally and objectively, regardless of the content or educational program of any preschool. However, from an educator's perspective, analyzing, exploiting and relying on local contexts to design experiential activities for preschool children to learn about local culture will contribute to improving effectiveness. Children's cognitive development and solving educational tasks are "by the children, for the children and based on the children" according to the perspective of the current Preschool Education Program. This article shares the meaning and importance of letting preschool children participate in experiential activities and provide guidelines to design experiential activities towards local culture for preschool children. 5-6 year olds in Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province. This approach is to help children improve their understanding of culture, people, specialties, traditional festivals and local cultural features of Dong Thap. Thereb, it educates children about the good living values of their homeland and country, forming love for their homeland through the process of exploring and experiencing in the local cultural space.
