SOME FEATURES OF THE CITY - STATE IN ANCIENT GREECE
Abstract
One outstanding feature of the ancient Greek civilization is the city - state (polis). The society and government are integrated into a unique polis. This article focuses on clarifing these features of the polis in the ancient Greek culture such as the city – state building on the balance between public and private ownership; the internal unification of the city – state on the power of collaboration and alliance, and so on. These features show that the city - state is key to discover the greatness of Greek culture - a small nation laying the background of European culture during two centuries.
