Assessing community participation in tourism development in Phong Dien district, Can Tho city

Abstract

This article is to examine the influencing factors of community participation in the tourism development. Several influenced factors are summed up through field surveys, questionnaires of local people joining in tourism activities, and the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) of the investigation datum gained from Phong Dien district, Can Tho city. The findings reveal that there are six influencing factors of community participation related to economic benefits, fairness, and transparency, social capital, community awareness about tourism, support for tourism development, and local policy. Thereby, the author has provided some recommendations and solutions to enhance residential participation in tourism development of this region.
