Applying mathematical modeling competence to solve selected problems on propositions and sets. Phạm Thị Yến - Phạm Xuân Hậu - Đỗ Hồng Sâm - Nguyễn
Abstract
In solving problems on propositions and sets in the Grade 10 mathematics curriculum, the understanding and application of mathematical modeling competence remain limited and have not received adequate attention. This has, in turn, constrained efforts to innovate teaching methods toward a competency-based orientation. Moreover, implementing fundamental and comprehensive reforms in education and training requires general education to shift from a content-based approach to a learner-competency approach. This article outlines mathematical competencies in general and mathematical modeling competence in particular, and discusses how modeling can be applied to solving problems on propositions and sets. Mathematical modeling also helps illuminate the connections between real-world contexts and textbook tasks from a mathematical perspective. Such an approach makes mathematics learning more meaningful for students and can enhance their motivation and interest in the subject.
