Factors Affecting The Decision to Participate in Household Health Insurance: A Case Study in Khanh Hoa Province

Abstract

By a combination of the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) method and multiple regression method, the article examines the factors affecting the decision to participate in household health insurance in Khanh Hoa province. The sample includes 409 people participating in the survey about household health insurance service of Khanh Hoa province. The results show that there are 9 factors having statistically significant impacts on the decision to participate in household health insurance in Khanh Hoa province including (i) Attitude and policy on household health insurance; (ii) Social influence; (iii) Quality of medical examination and treatment with the health insurance card; (iv) Feeling when participating in household health insurance; (v) Capacity of organization, management, human resources and propaganda; (vi) Awareness of household health insurance; (vii) Social security awareness; (viii) Feeling the risk and (ix) Income. In conclusion, the paper also suggests some policy implications related to promoting the participating in health insurance of Khanh Hoa province’s households.
