Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the impact of supervisors’ developmental feedback on employee creativity and to test the mediating roles of job crafting and intrinsic motivation in this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative approach was employed using a partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM) with data collected from 304 employees working in automotive manufacturing enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City.
Findings: The results show that supervisors’ developmental feedback has a positive effect on employee creativity. Job crafting and intrinsic motivation play significant mediating roles, amplifying the effect of developmental feedback on creativity.
Originality/value: This study adds empirical evidence to the Ability–Motivation–Opportunity framework and the componential theory of creativity by clarifying the mediating roles of job crafting and intrinsic motivation in the relationship between supervisors’ developmental feedback and employee creativity within the context of the automotive industry in Vietnam.
