Abstract

This article deeply analyzes the current situation of developing descriptive essay writing skills for hearing-impaired students (HIS) in grade 4, thereby proposing the process of building and using mind maps to develop descriptive essay writing skills for HIS. The results of a survey of the current situation of 34 teachers show that teachers have realized the effect of building and using mind maps in developing descriptive essay writing skills for 4th-grade HIS. Teachers also often use tree and network, grid, and chain mind maps to develop descriptive essay writing skills for them, especially developing groups of idea-finding skills and making outlines for descriptive essays and expression skills. However, due to difficulties in terms of facilities, and lack of instructional materials, so has not been as effective as desired. On that basis, we have proposed the process of building a mind map (including 5 steps) and the process of using a mind map (including 7 steps) so that teachers can refer to and use it in the process of developing descriptive essay writing skills for HIS in grade 4.
