Synthesis and transformation of some Ag(I) complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbene derived from imidazole

Abstract

The reactions of 1,3-dibenzylimidazolium chloride (Bn2-imy·HCl), 1,3-bis(2,6- diisopropylphenyl)imidazolium chloride (IPr·HCl) and 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimetylphenyl) imidazolium chloride with either Ag2O or AgNO3 afforded three Ag(I)-NHC complexes,
namely [AgCl(Bn2-imy)] (1), [AgCl(IPr)] (2) and [AgCl(Imes)] (3), with the high yield (86 ÷ 94%). The usage of AgNO3 in the presence of K2CO3 gave complexes 1-3 with a higher yield
and more simple reaction conditions than using Ag2O. The interaction between 1 and complex [PtCl(iPrEug)]2 formed interesting complex [PtCl(iPrEug)(Bn2-imy)] (4) with very high
efficiency (98%) at ambient conditions. Moreover, this result showed that Ag(I)-NHC complexes are suitable precursors for synthesizing Pt(II)-NHC complexes
