Analyze the impact of ownership structure to performance of Vietnamese banks before and after crisis 2008

Abstract

Currently, there are two main streams of thinking about efficiency in Vietnam banking business related to the ownership
structure of capital, namely: (1) the Banks with state-capital often enjoy priority conditions and have better performance;
(2) The Banks have foreign capital bear the higher cost efficiency. Articles will address the question that banks with what
majority shareholder type will operate more efficiently, consider the context of operating in normal conditions and after
the impact of the financial crisis.
In this paper the authors have found both elements ownership percentage of foreign partners as well as the proportion
of state ownership has an impact on the performance of commercial banks (CBs) in Vietnam, both before and after the
global economic crisis in 2008.
