ChatGPT and its impact on higher education

Abstract

ChatGPT, a popular artificial intelligence tool released in 2022 by OpenAI, has sparked controversy
among the higher education community. Using the method of synthesizing and analyzing data from
previous research papers, this paper aims to provide an overview of ChatGPT, including the background of
ChatGPT, its capabilities, benefits, and potential challenges and limitations. The article presents the positive
impact of ChatGPT on learners, teachers and training institutions, and the article also shows the negative
side of ChatGPT that there are risks related to cheating in learning, affecting the development process
of learners’ thinking, reduce direct interaction between teachers and learners. The article offers a set of
recommendations for effective use of ChatGPT for educational purposes.
