Abstract
The effect of ozonation on the decolorization and degradation of two dyes Direct Red 23 and Reactive Blue 19 was studied. Results showed that the ozonation was a very effective method for dye decolorization. Color removal efficiencies greater than 95 % were obtained in all cases. The amount of ozone absorbed by various liquids are different. The effect of ozonation depends on the pH of the solution, the dye concentration and reaction time. Results of decolorization showed that the color is reduced when pH and the reaction times increased. At pH 11, reaction times 90 minutes, the decolorization efficiency of Direct Red 23 and Reactive Blue 19 is 98.31 % and 99.78 %, respectively. Keywords: ozonation, decolorization, direct red 23, reactive blue 19, dye.
