DETERMINATION OF CHLORIDE IN SEWAGE OF BARIUM CHROMATE USED FOR MANUFACTURING PYROTECHNIC COMPOSITION BY SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHOD IN MICELLAR MEDIA

Abstract

    In this work, we have developed a method for colorimetric determination of chloride in watersamples using diphenylcarbazone in micellar media. The optimal conditions for thedetermination have been investigated: maximum absorption at wavelength of 530 nm, pH = 3,optimal concentration of reagents: SDS 0,1%:DPC; 0,4 g/L:Hg2+0,0002N as 1/12/20(corresponding to the ratio of Hg2+: DPC = 1/10). The linear range of chloride determine isfrom 0.2 to 1.6 mg/l. The limit of detection and limit of quantitation were 0.015 mg/l and0.051 mg/l, respectively. The method has small error and small coefficient of variation andwas successfully applied for determination of chloride in sewage of barium chromate. It canbe concluded that it is able to use this method for chloride determination in other materialsused for manufacturing pyrotechnic composition in Industry of Defense.
