INFLUENCE OF CaO AND CuO DOPPING ON THE CHARACTERISTICS AND THE CATALYTIC ACTIVITY OF CaO-CuO-CeO2 MIXED OXIDE PREPARED BY SOL-GEL METHOD

Abstract

    CuO, CeO2 oxide and CaO-CuO-CeO2 mixed oxide were prepared by sol-gel method.The characteristics were examined by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), H2-temperature- programmed reduction (H2-TPR) and Raman spectroscopy. H2-TPRresults indicated that there are three CuO species in the CaO-CuO-CeO2 mixedoxide: the finely dispersed CuO, the bulk CuO and the Cu2+ in the CeO2 lattice andthe Cu2+ is mostly exist in the Ce1-x-yCuxCayO2- solid solution. Raman spectroscopyshowed that CaO, CuO doping promoted the formation of oxygen vacancies of theCaO-CuO-CeO2 mixed oxide.The catalytic activity of CuO, CeO2 and mixed oxides for the phenol oxidation at lowtemperature (70-75oC) and atmospheric pressure have been investigated. The resultsshowed that the CaO and CuO doping greatly enhanced catalytic activity.
