Abstract

Organoclay is synthesized from bentonite (india) and propyltriphenyl phosphoniumbromide (PTPB) by wet method. The influence of organoclay making process on thedistance of the organoclay layers (d001) and the level of intrusion PTPB into bentonitewere studied. By X-ray diffraction method, the direct method calcined sample, wedetermined suitable conditions for preparing organoclays from bentonite (india) andPTPB: reaction temperature is 50oC, the volume ratio PTPB/bentonite is 0.5, pH ofthe solution is 9, the reaction time is 4h. The product is dried for 48 hours at 80oC.Organoclay synthesis is studied by the methods as XRD, IR, TGA, SEM. The d001 andorganic content in the respective product is 19,456, 14,19%. IR method showed thatthe PTPB is in the organoclay. SEM images showed that the organoclay synthesis haslayer structure and high porosity.

Keywords: Bentonite, propyltriphenyl phosphonium bromide, organoclays, structure.
