Abstract

The KOH -modified graphite (GK) was used as a adsorbent to remove efficientlyammonium ion from aqueous solution. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imagesof GK reveal a highly porous surface structure of the adsopbent. The adsorptionproperties for ammonium ion of GK were investigated by batch method. The influenceof pH (2- 12), contact time (10-240min), and the amount of adsorbent (0.01-0.08g) onammonium ion removal efficiency by the GK were also determined. The results showthat the time to reach adsorption equilibrium, the optimal pH value, and mass ofadsopbent are 150 min, 8.0, and 0.05g, respectively. The maximum monolayeradsorption capacity of GK is 87,72 mg/g. GK acts as a promising adsorbent for theremoval of ammonium ion from aqueous solution.
