Abstract

If early detection of ectopic pregnancy is made, it would help reduce the risk of mortality among pregnant women. In order to improve the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, we carried out a quasi-experimental study with pre-and-post intervention and control group(s) of health workers. Intervention activities include training of health workers and behavior change communication implemented for two years. The intervention sites were six communes in Dai Tu district; Thai Nguyen province and control sites consisted of six communes in Dong Hy district. A total of 296 health workers participated in the pre-intervention evaluation and 251 health workers in the post-intervention evaluation. It was shown by the study results that after intervention, the score for practice of early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy by health workers proved to be 1.2 points higher than that before intervention. The average practice score among health workers in Dai Tu district was 1.24 points higher than that among their counterparts of the same age groups, workplaces and ethnicity in Dong Hy district. The study also indicated that the intervention model had a positive effect on improving the practice of early diagnosis among health workers.
