Situation of Measles epidemic prevention among Medical staff in Muong La district, Son La province – 2014

Abstract

      It was a descriptive epidemiological study conducted to describe the situation of Measles epidemic prevention in Muong La district, Son La province. Since the first case of Measles (23/12/2013), Measles has been reported in 5/6 communes of Muong La district with a total of 138 cases. By 17/4/2014, the outbreak has been put under control. Results from interviews with the medical staff at commune level showed that:

- All medical staff participating in Measles epidemic prevention had experience in this work (31.8% of

them had 6 to 10 years of experience; 56.3% had more than 10 years of experience).

- Those medical staff who regularly updated their knowledge on Measles prevention accounted for 70.3%.

- 78.1% of the medical staff directly participated in Measles outbreak prevention; 92.2% of the staff knew how to conduct surveillance of infected cases and exposed people.

- Vaccination campaign against Measles epidemic in the whole district was promptly implemented with a high coverage rate (98.8%).
