Abstract

This study aimed to isolate fungal strains capable of producing chitosanase with high activity. From 18 isolates obtained from different sources, only 6 isolates were selected based on the size of the chitosan hydrolysis zone (7,67-20 mm). Among these, 4 strains with highest chitosanase activity (0,08-1,17 UI/mL) were analyzed by the ITS sequence. The identified strains were confirmed to be Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus terreus and Aspergillus toxicarius. Those are considered potential producers of chitosanase and would be subjected to further investigation of optimum culture conditions for maximal chitosanase activity production.

Keywords: Fungal strains, chitosanase, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus toxicarius.
