Abstract

Applying Black Soldier Flies (BSF) as biological method for organic wastes treatment is one of new methods which is environmentally friendly by reducing the wastes to be disposed in landfills as well as reserving water and land resources. In this study, we apply BSF for treating three different groups of organic wastes, including fruit wastes, wastes from vegetarian restaurants, and wastes from non-vegetarian restaurants collected at Son Ky Ward, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Results show that the BSF larvae have different growth and reproduction ability in different substrates, highest potential in vegetarian restaurant’s substrate and lowest potential in fruit substrate. In which, the effectiveness of waste treatment in vegetarian restaurant’s substrate is highest and in fruit substrate is lowest. These models have high economic efficiency if being applied at household scale and in rural areas
