Identifying Types and Levels of Social Conflict in the Economic Sector: Evidence from the Coastal Areas of Quang Ngai Province
Abstract
Quang Ngai province has experienced rapid socio-economic development in recent years, particularly with the emergence and expansion of industrial parks and economic zones. This has given rise to potential risks as well as actual occurrences of various social tensions, some of which have escalated into social conflicts. Social contradictions/conflicts in the coastal areas of Quang Ngai province have arisen across economic, social, and environmental domains, often intertwined with one another. Based on a field survey of 600 local residents and in-depth interviews with 50 local government officials, this paper focuses on identifying the types and levels of social conflict within the economic sector in the coastal areas of Quang Ngai province. The study also proposes implications for preventing and improving mechanisms for handling social conflict in the province in the coming period.
