A review of travel diaries on Central Viet Nam’s islands in the first half of the 20th century
Abstract
This paper reviews the travel diaries on the coastal areas and islands of Central Viet Nam in the first half of the twentieth century in terms of collection, statistics, classification and authors’ identification. Since then, the author identifies the appearance, geo-cultural characteristics and sense of sovereignty on the coastal areas and islands of Central Viet Nam. In addition, some typical travel writings are introduced in the paper in which the role of authors, social context, realistic scope, ecological environment landscape and the styles of the travel diaries are analysed. Specifically, the author also emphasizes on the position of the styles in travel diaries writing on the Central region in the literature of Viet Namese sea and islands.
