The ceremony of “boat ritual” in “the Feast of Saint Peter” by the fishermen community in La Gi town, Binh Thuan province

Abstract

In recent years, mariculture has been paid much attention and studied from
many different approaches, notably fishermen’s cultural and social life. Fishermen community’s
cultural characteristics demonstrate their adaptation to impacts of the natural environment.
The article refers to “Lễ bổn mạng Thánh Phêrô” (the Feast of Saint Peter) – a Catholic festival -
and Saint Peter’s Association of maritime workers - a socio-religious organization related to the
marine profession, which plays an important role in the Catholic fishermen’s cultural life in La
Gi town, Binh Thuan province. This is one of the unique features of mariculture in La Gi coast.
